Knowledge is power and teaching your child the same will build confidence at any age. The truth is that the ability to maintain a regular grooming schedule will promote a healthy scalp and hair growth.     

The division of light skin and dark skin is something that your child will face in the world. Teaching your child to love themselves just the way they are on a regular basis will build their self esteem.  Using positive affirmations will help your child to cope. 

Challenge yourselves as caregivers and parents to learn to do basic hair techniques. A transfer of trust and love builds a lasting bond. Continue to educate yourself.Maintain your child's hair or select a consistent stylist, barber or braider. Use photos to convey your vision of how you want your child's hair done. If your child is 12 or older encourage them to learn to do their own hair for long lasting self-care. 

Skin oil needs a carrier oil for application. You may also add oil to purified water and use in a spray bottle as a facial mist. When using oils on hair it is considered a hot oil treatment. Apply oil to hair for 1-2 hours. Then soak a towel in hot water and wrap hair for 30 additional minutes. A second option is to add oil to a natural conditioner and follow product directions.
